Update and correction: 

Residents of Forest Lake Estates near McNutt Road and Kennedy Lane in west Conway were put on alert just after 8 a.m. Monday after a natural gas line in the area was compromised.

Conway Assistant Fire Chief Mike Winter said a worker with a construction company cut the two-inch CenterPoint Energy gas line with an excavator while digging to install a sewer line.

Winter said the department enacted a voluntary evacuation because the wind direction carried the gas away from the nearby neighborhood.

One resident evacuated for a brief time, he said.

Workers with CenterPoint controlled the leak after about two and a half hours, according to Winter.
