A light agenda for the Conway City Council was highlighted by the new contract between the city and the Community Action Program of Central Arkansas for the rehabilitation of homes in Conway.
In early 2010, the Housing and Urban Development Department required that Conway stop rehabilitation of homes until policies and procedures were updated, documented and approved by the Little Rock HUD Field Office. Those actions were completed in late 2011, and the program restarted with funds from 2009. The new contract, which the council will consider, allows CAPCA to spend an additional $70,000 on housing rehabilitation.
Lauralee McCool, Community Development Block Grant Director, told the council that approximately 14 houses could receive help from the agreement, and other repairs can be made with additional grant funds.
Under the contract, area of low and moderate income will be determined by Conway’s Community Development Department, and CAPCA will take applications and award projects in those areas.
In other business, the council approved two bids, one for a parking lot resurfacing and one for the demolition of property.
Asphalt Pavers of Conway won the job paving the parking lot of the Senior Citizens Center with a bid of $37,816, which came in below the estimate of $42,000. Paladino Construction bid $6,800 for the demolition and removal of materials at 445 Louis Lane.
The council also moved $10,300 from the general fund into the 2012 budget for advertising and legal notices.
