Family contacts CPD to claim body of man found dead

Posted: October 1, 2012 - 11:39am

Family members of a man found dead in a vacant lot in Conway last month have come forward and are attempting to claim his body, officials say.

LaTresha Woodruff, public information officer with Conway Police Department, said relatives left a message for police over the weekend after a Google search of his name returned unfortunate results.

Investigators were unsuccessful in locating next of kin when the body of Atlas Rufus Miles, a black male, age 70, was found in early September in a vacant lot just north of a tire business on the south end of Harkrider Street.

A car at the scene had California tags and was presumed to have belonged to Miles.

Faulkner County coroner Patrick Moore said the man died of natural causes.

Woodruff said she spoke briefly on Monday morning with the man’s sister, who resides in New York City.

The woman will be speaking with a detective on Monday afternoon to determine whether the man’s remains are intact and can be returned to the family.

Sad

It's a sad commentary when a man's life ends and nobody cares. Makes one thankful for friends and family, and brings to our attention the fact that there are probably many people in the world who have neither.
