State Rep. Ed Garner will run for the state senate seat in District 15, which will be vacated by Mary Anne Salmon, who is retiring.

Garner is in his third term in the House representing Maumelle, Oak Grove and parts of North Little Rock.  He has served all three terms on the House Revenue and Tax committee, two terms on House State Agencies and is the Chairman of Joint Performance Review committee.

Garner graduated from Hendrix College.  He is a former investment banker and currently a small business owner.  He and his wife Ginny have 3 grown children.

“I remain committed to creating an environment that fosters private sector job growth,” Garner said. “Tax code and educational reforms, along with a modern highway grid system are necessary for Arkansas to compete. If we do those things, the citizens of this state can join me in imagining a prosperous Arkansas future. We have the resources, both natural and human, We just need the vision to put them to work.”

In his first term, Garner authored a bill to trigger a reduction in the State’s Income Tax when Arkansas has a budget surplus.  In his second term and again in the most recent session, he authored the Capital Gains Reduction Act to improve the business investment climate in Arkansas to create jobs.

Senate District 15 includes parts of Pulaski County west of Chenal Parkway and northwest Maumelle, Perry County, Conway County, Faulkner County in the areas of Mayflower and Greenbrier and Van Buren County around Clinton.

Garner’s campaign will host an event for support on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Greenbrier Community Room at #5 Louis Lane, Greenbrier. A $50 donation to the campaign is suggested.
