Advertising and Promotion Commissioners on Tuesday approved funding for four events, ranging from a baseball tournament that will bring 50 to 60 teams to town to compete in 12 weekends in the summer to a pre-hunting season Arkansas Outdoor Expo in August at the Expo Center.
Two applications were received from the University of Central Arkansas for a summer baseball program with nine tournaments and the Southland Conference Volleyball Championship in November. Each request was for $2,500.
Bill Lampe of CASM Sports Management, producers of the summer baseball tournament, said in an application that it wants “Conway to be the home of summer baseball.”
It was reported that December collections were $23,340 from the motel tax and $33,876 was collected from the prepared food tax.
Two commissioner terms, that of Chairman Mike Kraft and at-large member Ray Kordsmeier, will expire in May, and the board agreed to publish information about nominations so those positions will be filled in a timely manner.
