(1937)  

All but seven enlisted men of Headquarters company, Second battalion, 153rd infantry of the Arkansas National Guard, who were sent to Jonesboro last Thursday for flood relief duty, returned to Conway last night.

Remaining at Jonesboro were Corp. Jim Mabry, First Class Privates Paul E Matthews and Clyde B. Hogan and Privates Ernest Moix, Loyd Thompson, Eldon H. Fair, Charley W. Haynes and Earl Davis Jr.

(1962)

The Rev. Joe B. France, who recently became minister of the First Christian Church of Conway, will be installed in a ceremony at the church, Watkins and Elizabeth streets, at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Mr. France came to the Conway pulpit from Bowie, Texas.

Kenneth Teagarden of Little Rock, state secretary of the Arkansas Christian Missionary Society, will be the speaker.

(1987)

Members of the senior class at Mount Vernon High School recently sponsored two pageants in the school gymnasium to help raise money for the group’s senior trip.

Cristy Loyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Bob Loyd of Mount Vernon, was crowned Miss Blue Jay Campus Queen. Kelli King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roddy King, was first runner-up and Felicia Loyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Loyd, was second runner-up.

Other participants were Tanya Atkinson, Tollea Brown, Joy Crawford, Penny Gardner, Lacey Perna, Angela Ullrich and Beki Waggoner.

Tammy Arnett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Arnett, was crowned queen in the Junior Miss Blue Jay Campus Queen contest. First runner-up was Dana Ussery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ussery, and second runner-up was Carie Loyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Bob Loyd. 

Also competing in the event were Teilla Brown, Stacey Fowlkes, Shelia Janes, Toni Rickett, Dana Atkinson, Kim Clark and Kathey Henry.

Emcees for the program were Shannon Barnes and David McSpadden, Entertainment was provided by Misty Madron, Layna Leach, Teri Rivers, Julie Leach, Scotty Arnett, Chad Sherwood and David Benton.

(2002)

Conway Fire Marshal Randy Freeman and 34 other participants in the reserve officer training program practiced range shooting Saturday. The Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a three-month course to enable individuals to become certified reserve deputies. The training consists of instruction on basic and advanced law enforcement procedures and techniques. This year men and women from the Conway Police Department, Faulkner County Sheriff’s Reserve, Faulkner County Detention Center, Conway Fire Department, Greenbrier Police Department and Mayflower Police Department are enrolled in the training.
