Seventh grade students at Carl Stuart Middle School celebrate geography

Posted: January 23, 2012 - 7:00pm

Students brainstormed “What Makes Conway Great” then designed and made posters showcasing the following categories; outdoor activities, festivals, clubs, shopping, important places, activity centers offering many different  lessons, schools, churches, parks, and restaurants. The list was extensive.

Every year National Geographic chooses a geography theme to emphasize.  Geography Awareness is an annual awareness program that encourages citizens young and old to think and learn about the interconnectedness of our world. This year’s theme is “Geography: The Adventure in Your Community.”

Across the nation geography has basically been ignored. The emphasis has been on reading, language, and math skills which are very important but geography education is also valuable for all students.

Geography Awareness will continue across the nation as students prepare to participate in school and state geography bees. SUBMITTED PHOTOS
