Vernon Henry had a narrow escape from death and two of his mules were drowned as he attempted to ford Cedar Creek, swollen by heavy rains, at a point near Bethesda church, seven miles north of here, Wednesday.
Mr. Henry’s wagon was washed downstream for some distance, but he saved himself by staying in the floating bed until he could catch the limb of an overhanging tree and pull himself out. He had removed his rubber boots and left them in the wagon bed, but afterwards recovered them.
Snow and sleet fell here throughout the day Friday and it turned much colder.
