Volunteer fire departments in Arkansas are receiving assistance from an award-winning program based in Faulkner County.
The Arkansas Forestry Commission Rural fire Protection Program, located in Greenbrier, recently won two 2001 Franklin Awards presented by the U.S. Forest Service.
The Franklin awards are named for Benjamin Franklin, who was the founder of the volunteer fire service. The Rural Fire Protection Program received the Director’s Award for 2001, as well as the award for the best efforts in equipping under-served communities with firefighting equipment and vehicles. Most states in the southeast have programs like the Rural Fire Protection Program.
