A six-year-old girl that was struck by a vehicle on Friday night as she was riding her bicycle has died.
According to information from La Tresha Woodruff, public information officer for the Conway Police Department, Alexis George of Conway died Sunday at Arkansas Children’s Hospital as a result of her injuries.
The child had been following her siblings across the street when she was struck by the vehicle.
“Apparently the little girl had been coming across Sapphire Street to Meadowlake Street following her siblings on their bicycles,” Woodruff said. The girl’s siblings made it across the street without injury. She hit the left, front end of an oncoming vehicle which caused her and the bicycle to be thrown over the vehicle.”
George was taken to Conway Regional Medical Center and subsequently transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Woodruff confirmed that while this case is still under investigation, the department believes the incident “looks like it was purely accidental”.

Was the driver speeding and/or using a cell phone?

So Sad
This is a really sad situation. When I was little, I was never allowed to ride my bike in the street alone. Now, people allow small children to play out in the street while they're inside watching tv. If your children are out there please go monitor the situation. Also, parents please don't let your children play in the street after dark. I see children playing in the street like at 8 and 9 at night. Not everyone shares the concern, for your children like you do, and people drive crazy through neighborhoods like they're on a race track or something.
Condolences
Horrible situation all around. My condolences to the family, and best wishes to the driver for coming to terms with this.
My Heart Breaks
I am praying for her family and even more her siblings that saw it happen and will have to live with it, as well as the driver. I pray God brings them peace and takes any burdens off their shoulders. I also am praying for the parents of the little girl. So many people think it wont happen to them or their family, and no matter how hard you try to watch and protect your children sometimes children do things you tell them not to do and bad things happen. My heart breaks for her family. I am a hawk with my girls, but it only takes a second for them to do something that can change your life forever, so please remember that before you start bashing the parents, unless you know them and know their practices as well as the driver. I would be devastated if I was either one.
Prayers
Prayers for all involved.
More prayers
This is every parent's, and every driver's nightmare. I know we all hoped the little girl would recover. My condolences and prayers for all involved.
Condolences
My heart goes out to the family of Alexis and to the driver. Police have said that the driver will not face charges and that it was just a terrible accident. This is something that could happen to any one of us as we are driving. A child on a bicycle can make it into traffic in a matter of seconds.
It's easy to throw blame at parents and the driver, but it's unlikely that any of us have enough information to really know what happened.
I especially feel bad for the siblings of that little girl. They will likely carry a great deal of guilt for a long time. They need our prayers and not a bunch of negativity.
