4.3 earthquake recorded near Greenbrier

Posted: February 18, 2011 - 9:53am

Faulkner County was rattled awake at 2:15 a.m. Friday by the strongest quake so far, a 4.3 on the scale.

For the first time in this round of shaking, residents of Conway in most neighborhoods reported feeling and hearing the noise and vibration.

A 4.0 was registered at 11 p.m., and a full moon added to the eerieness of the all-night activites.

There have been no reports of damages or injuries.

To tell the U.S. Geological Survey "I Felt It," go to earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/ To report damage, call the Faulkner County Office of Emergency Management at 450-4935.

Here's another site with lots of good information. http://www.shakeout.org/centralus/

I want to feel an earthquake.

I want to feel an earthquake. But I live in Conway and sure as heck didn't feel this one! They seem to all happen when we're asleep!

Quakes

The quakes are increasing in intensity and duration in the northern sections of Faulkner County. The one at 11PM Feb. 17 was the strongest we have felt yet and lasted ten to twelve seconds. There was a weaker quake about 15 to 30 minutes later that lasted just a few seconds. At 2:15AM on Feb. 18, there was another quake that lasted eight to ten seconds. Though we have had numerous brief quakes recently, these were the strongest we have felt. So far, I have seen no obvious evidence of structural damage. Nonetheless, I assure you the quakes are damaging our feelings about living in a relatively quiet and safe rural community and injuring our resolve to remain here.

What sort of noise do these

What sort of noise do these things make? About 10:30 last night I heard a noise which sounded like someone threw a rock at my metal garage door. I went outside but I didn't see anything. I heard the noise a few more time (maybe 3?) up until about 11:30 maybe.

I wonder if it was my house creaking from the quake or was it the actual noise of the earthquake?

11 PM earthquake

I live in Conway near Meadowlake and Salem Road and I felt the 11 PM earthquake.
There was a rattle and a boom that I thought someone threw something at my bedroom wall! From about 11:00 until 11:30 my outside dog, a large lab, was going nuts!

Sonic booms

After a little googling, I see that earthquakes are often accompanied by sonic booms. I live near country club and prince in Conway. I definitely heard something, but didn't notice feeling the earthquake.

I felt it in Conway!

This was my first earthquake. The noise I heard was from a chair on the floor above me that moved.

If you felt it, report that you felt it: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/

Feb 18th Quake

When it went by my house where I live off Pickles Gap it sounded like a boom froma Jet going into Mach 1 is the best way I can describe it along with it sounding like a tree fell on top of something. It lasted about 2 seconds and was gone. That's the best way I can describe the sound of a quake and what it was like for me here.
