Updated: One dead in Quitman wreck

A Quitman man is dead following a one-vehicle accident Tuesday.

David Ezell, of 112 Pumpkin Center Circle, died after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree along Hargett Road.

According to Maj. Andy Shock with the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office, the accident was preceeded by a domestic disturbance.

A woman contacted 9-1-1 at 11:40 a.m. to report that Ezell was being verbally abusive toward her. She also stated that he had taken several pills and had been drinking whiskey.

At 11:47 a.m., the woman contacted the sheriff’s office again to report that she had left the scene and Ezell was chasing her in his vehicle.

While chasing the woman, Shock said Ezell lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. He was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Shock said it was believed that Ezell was impaired while driving, however, Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore said official results were not yet available.
