GREENBRIER — Anna Acre was nominated for the Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders award and won.
She is a senior student at Greenbrier High School and was awarded a certificate by Robert Zeiler, senior manager of Chesapeake Energy — one of the many sponsors of this program. The Log Cabin and the Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce are also sponsors and each week’s winner will be featured on ARLeaders.com and by media partners, including KSSN 96 FM.
Acre has been the president of the FFA for two years, vice president of 4-H for two years and is on the junior advisory board for FFA. She is attending the Faulkner County Youth Leadership Institute 2010 and was named the 2010 Fair Queen. She received Grand Champion Reserve in 2009 and was homecoming maid two years in a row. She was a member of the Greenbrier Parliamentary procedure team that won the top spot in Arkansas. Barbara Lorenz nominated her for this honor and wrote, “Acre has great leadership skills, is a self motivated person and a well-grounded individual. She is very community oriented, friendly and outgoing.”
For eight weeks, one young leader from Faulkner County will be selected from all nominees who have displayed leadership qualities within a volunteer organization. From elementary school to high school, students who are exceptional members of 4-H, FCCLA, Choosing to Excel or any other non-profit organization in Faulkner County, are eligible. A Dell computer will be donated to each winner’s school.
The program started Sept. 20, and Hunter Burnett, a senior at St. Joseph School in Conway, was chosen the first week. At the end of eight weeks, a banquet is planned for Nov. 16 to select the two most outstanding students from all eight winners. These two leaders will also receive new Dell personal laptop computers.
