Waylon Harris, who has been managing editor of the Log Cabin Democrat since 2007, is now editor of the media company.

He succeeds Rick Fahr as editor. Fahr was named publisher earlier this month.

Fahr announced Harris’ appointment Monday.

“Waylon is one of the state’s best young journalists. We have been fortunate to have him at the Log Cabin, and I am happy to have him take on this additional leadership role,” Fahr said. “The Log Cabin has a storied history as a great community newspaper, and I know Waylon will continue that tradition.”

Harris, 27, a native of Paragould, joined the Log Cabin staff as a reporter in June 2007. 

He is a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and has held a number of news positions, serving as a reporter, photographer and page designer at the Log Cabin and The Jonesboro Sun.

“I want to thank Rick Fahr and those at Morris Communications and the Log Cabin who made this possible,” Harris said. “I work with many outstanding people here at the Log Cabin, and I greatly appreciate this opportunity to lead a newsroom of the 21st century.”

Harris said the staff of the Log Cabin Democrat is committed to producing the best daily newspaper, online news and information products and niche publications possible for the residents of Faulkner County and the surrounding area. 

“The newspaper business is changing daily, and the Log Cabin is changing with it. It’s because of the committed staff here at the Log Cabin that I believe we’ll produce the most useful and informative products to the residents of Faukner County.”

Harris will be responsible for all aspects of the news operation.
