A Faulkner County woman was arrested Saturday evening near Lake Conway after a Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office deputy found suspected methamphetamine lab components in the back of a pickup truck.
In the cab of the truck were three children, all under the age of 9.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, driven by Amber Leach, 29, on Caney Creek Road, a few miles northwest of Leach’s 78 Appleyard Road residence. According to a news release from FCSO, Leach “attempted to elude (the deputy) by pulling into a residence ... (the deputy) recognized her as someone FCSO had dealt with in the past and knew she did not live there.”
When asked by the deputy if she had anything illegal in the vehicle, Leach volunteered a container in the back of the pickup containing “coffee filters, glassware with white residue, Morton salt containers and a plastic jug containing a white liquid that was smoking,” according to the release.
Leach was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture, possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, no tag illumination, driving on a suspended license and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. Leach also had an active warrant from Conway Police Department for failure to pay fines/fees resulting from a misdemeanor traffic offense. The children were released to the custody of their father, according to the release, and an Arkansas Department of Human Services case has been opened in the matter. Leach may be arraigned today on formal charges at Faulkner County Circuit Court.
