All nonessential Conway city offices, both sports centers, sanitation dept. will be closed Tuesday.
During the absence of Gov. Mike Beebe, Lt. Gov. Bill Halter and Senate President Pro Tempore Sen. Bob Johnson, Speaker of the House Robbie Wills, D-Conway, became acting Governor of Arkansas from about 3 p.m. Wednesday to mid-morning Thursday.
Wills said that his term as acting Governor was “very quiet and uneventful,” and had trouble arisen, Beebe “was on speed dial,” Wills joked.
“We’re in the internet age, and it’s hard not to be able to get ahold of the Governor, but the constitution requires that the Governor be within the bounds of Arkansas to exercise his authority,” Wills said, adding that “It’s unusual for the line of succession to get down to the Speaker of the House.”
