Two gun-related incidents reported during 12-hour period in Conway

Conway  police responded to the area of Spruce and Factory streets shortly after noon on Wednesday after a person placed a 9-1-1 call to report that a man had fired several shots at another man.

According to Conway Police Department public information officer Sharen Carter, the caller said that two men had been fist fighting on the corner when one started running away, at which point the other man produced a weapon, probably a handgun, and fired at the fleeing man.

The caller said that one man had fled in an unknown direction, and the other had gone into a house. Police were unable to locate either man, Carter said, and found no shell casings or blood in the area.

“There just didn’t seem to be a crime scene to process,” Carter said, though the incident remains “very much under investigation.”

In another gun-related incident less than a mile away Wednesday, a man in his early 20s told an officer that he was stopped at the intersection of Harkrider and Sixth streets just past 1 a.m. when a suspect described as a black male wearing a do-rag in the driver’s seat of a car next to him rolled down his window and leveled a semiautomatic handgun at him. The victim told police that the man didn’t say anything, but only pointed the gun. The victim sped away upon seeing the gun, he said, and the suspect vehicle was last seen heading east on Sixth Street. The suspect vehicle is described in the report as a white Pontiac Bonneville with a spoiler and missing passenger’s side body cladding.
