A 2.4-magnitude earthquake shook northern Faulkner County in the early morning hours Monday.
The quake occurred at 2:56 a.m. and was centered 2 miles west-southwest of Greenbrier, 3 miles northeast of Wooster and 6 miles south of Twin Groves.
This was the sixth earthquake in the area in recent weeks.
Natural Gas Drilling
I have a feeling that the natural gas drilling in the area is causing the recent earthquakes. A Google search quickly confirmed my suspicion about the link between natural gas drilling and seismic events with articles about the occurence of similar earthquakes in some Texas towns.
Feels like home!
Stories like this make me feel like I'm in NE Arkansas again. Also, makes me glad I have earthquake insurance.
Earthquake Insurance
I can't believe they offer Earthquake Insurance in Arkansas! Go figure!!! I agree that it is the drilling. Let's just hope it doesn't set off the New Madrid fault!
Are you guys SERIOUS ?????
If so...please explain the rash of earthquakes in the Mt. Vernon/Enola area 10-15 years ago. The EXACT same thing happened 20 miles east of the ones in Greenbrier and there wasn't a natural gas well within 150 miles.
Are you guys geologists?
Are you land based hydrocarbon extraction experts?
.........hmmm...didn't think so.
Here is a "theory" that is just as valid......The combination of decades of heavy traffic on nearby interstate 40 combined with an increase in truck traffic on Hwy65 in conjunction with being under the flight training pattern of the C130 transport group out of LRAFB has loosened the crust of the earth!!!!!!!!
