Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management will be visiting Faulkner County and 46 other counties to assess flood damage.
The teams will be completing preliminary damage assessments for damages resulting from the flooding in the area that began on Oct. 29.
County Judge Preston Scroggin said the damage in Faulkner County fans out across the county. He said the teams will look at not only damage to county roads, but also at damage to individual homes.
“The vast majority of the losses were suffered in Vilonia,” Scroggin said. “There are so many variables. We will do everything in our power to help. Some people have lost everything.”
He said another area of damage was at Pickles Gap Village.
“It was scattered,” Scroggin said.
Although Scroggin said he is tickled that FEMA and ADEM will be assessing the local damage, his main focus is on the county receiving individual assistance.
He encouraged anyone with damage to their property to contact the Office of Emergency Management at 450-4935 or the County Judge’s Office at 450-4900 to report damage.
Other counties seeking disaster declaration for flooding, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms include Arkansas, Ashley, Bradley, Boone, Calhoun, Chicot, Cleburne, Cleveland, Columbia, Conway, Cross, Dallas, Drew, Franklin, Fulton, Grant, Greene, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lawrence, Lee, Lincoln, Logan, Lonoke, Marion, Miller, Monroe, Newton, Ouachita, Perry, Poinsett, Prairie, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Scott, Sharp, St. Frances, Union, Van Buren, White and Woodruff.
According to a release from ADEM, teams will be working with FEMA to complete the assessments as quickly as possible in order to ask for federal assistance for the state.
