New Beginning Church

By Diane Robinson

Our message on Sunday night was taken from Hebrews 2, and verse 1 says, Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. Verse 3, How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him. Pastor Bob’s message was on “Hearing the Word of God, builds faith.” Hold fast to the Bible for it is your anchor, write its precepts in your hearts, and practice them in your lives. If your faith is not what it should be you can find your answer in the Bible and being in church around other Christians will also help your faith.

Our prayers go out to Dennis Veazey’s mother, Darrell and Sharon Watts, James Lindsey, the Rev. Bobby Majors and Nancy McNew.

We have had several visitors since the first of the year and it is great seeing new people coming to the house of the Lord. My prayer is for our churches to over flow by the end of this year, because this is what the Lord wants too.

“The surest steps toward happiness are the church steps.”

Wesley United Methodist Church

By Lynn Beatty

Our ministries not only remain active but are also growing at Wesley United Methodist Church. In conjunction with our Bread Basket food pantry, we now have a clothing ministry called the Clothes Closet. Some energetic folks in our congregation saw the need for this kind of service, worked very hard to pull it together, and their vision has become a reality. The room is filled with fresh, clean clothes for children and adults and are free of charge, but there are limits and guidelines which must be observed. The room is staffed on a volunteer basis and is open to the public on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon when our Food Pantry is open.

Our pastor, the Rev. David Hoffman, is an active supporter of UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and in a few days will lead a team of five to Baldwin, Louisiana to the UMCOR depot for several days of hands-on service. They will help this organization in compiling and packing supply kits which will be sent worldwide to people and countries in need.

Outreach and service are a big part of Wesley United Methodist Church, and each week we are encouraged to reach out to others. On the third Sunday after the Epiphany, we were reminded that not only are we called to come, but we’re also called to go. And that that’s what this household of faith is all about: passing it on.

All of our services are open to the public, and guests of all ages are welcome at each one. Located at 2310 E. Oak St., we love to see new faces, and our doors are opened wide for our guests. If you do not have a church you regularly attend, you are always welcome here. Tomorrow following worship will be our Fifth Sunday potluck dinner.

Holland Baptist Church

By Kathy Pearce

Brother John Evans Jr. continues to preach messages from the Revelation which are applicable to the Holland Baptist Church. He will continue in the second chapter tomorrow where he got to the appraisal of the church at Thyratira before stopping Sunday night.

We’re looking forward to several events. Feb. 11, at 6 p.m., the senior adults will meet in the fellowship hall for a Valentine’s Party. Food, games, and fun are expected to make this a memorable occasion. February 12th the men are preparing breakfast for the ladies in observance of Valentine’s Day. They hope to avoid purchasing roses and candy!

The youth plan to attend Winter Jam at Verizon Arena, Feb. 19. Several popular artists are slated to perform.

All senior adults planning to attend Springtime Jubilee 2012 in Branson, Mo., should be signed up by tomorrow. Krista Kay Mauldin is in charge of making reservations. The event is planned for April 25-27.

Among those for whom we continue to pray are: William McGaha. Fred Purifoy, Jean Garrett, Lucille Purifoy and Sheryl Pollock. Many others are remembered as well.

Every struggle you have is worth while if it gets you to a place of honesty before God. - Dr. David Jeremiah

May God bless your church in worship tomorrow.
