January 21, 2014, marked the 50th wedding anniversary of Reuel L. Shepherd Jr. and Terry Mae (Whitmore) Shepherd.
The couple wed in a small ceremony Jan. 21, 1964, at the home of the bride’s parents, Floyd and Clora Whitmore, in Little Rock, Ark.
Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd met while attending what is now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. After graduation Reuel and Terry eventually landed jobs in the Conway School District teaching junior high school science and high school English, respectively. Both were well-respected educators for more than 30 years.
Their union produced two children: Kimberly Shepherd-Scott (Christopher) of Conway and Reuel Jabbar Shepherd of Silver Spring, Md. They have one grandson, Jacob Scott.
For many years they have been active members of Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, and they have served their community as well. Recently, Mr. Shepherd was honored with the Community Service Award for December 2013 by Sen. Jason Rapert.
