Community Corner June 28

Centerville

The Centerville School Reunion will be today, June 28. The Reunion is scheduled to begin around 10 a.m. and will be held inside the church building. A meal will be provided to attendees at no charge and there is even supposed to be someone filming the speakers as they tell stories of what has happened over the years in our wonderful community. Last year was my first time to get to attend the reunion and I enjoyed it.

Todd and Kellie Cardin recently returned from a 7 Day Alaskan Cruise to celebrate their anniversary. The scenery was excellent according to Kellie and I can’t wait to see the pictures. It is good to have them back in Faulkner County, though!

I have been busy attending summer teacher training and am almost finished. Teachers are fortunate to be able to have some extra time off in the summers but do spend a great deal of that time preparing for the next school year. I spent two days at GMS and spent the last four days at UALR in Little Rock. Traffic was much lighter when I drove to the big city of Greenbrier than my days traveling to Little Rock and that was a great reminder of how lucky I am to work so close to home.

I hope to see you at the reunion today, or I hope you are enjoying a great vacation somewhere. Let me know if you have any great news to share with readers.

Guy News

I hope everyone is preparing to come to the Peachfest in two weeks. It will be a great weekend. This will be a great family weekend trip.

Congratulations to Tena and Tony VanPelt they are grandparents! And Junior Dowdy is a great-grandpa! Gunner Lee Reeves was born at or around 8:59 p.m. on Thursday night, June 26, at Conway Regional Women’s Center. He was about 8 lbs. and over, and 20 inches long. He is adorable too. That makes me a great-great-aunt! Mom Ragen and dad Chris Reeves, are doing great! Can’t wait to get to see him and give him hugs.

Congratulations to Kayla Crim and Bradley Brinley on the arrival of their daughter Emily Jade Brinley, weighing 7 lbs. 1 oz., and 18 inches long born on June 20 at the Women’s Center! Emil was born with a few problems and was transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She has had several procedures done and is doing better. Please keep this family in your prayers.

Keep the following in prayer too, Wilma Stevenson, Betty Griffith, and anyone that has been sick or has lost a family member.

Guy Perkins School lost a former student Jermaine Harris who was a magnificent basketball player. Please keep this family as there are many questions they are trying to deal with. He will be missed by many family members and friends.

Thanks to my best friend and sister Sue Clay we have almost finished doing my floors. We have jerked all the carpet in my living room and hallway and prepared the floor to stain it. We have stained sealed and like waxing the floor. It is looking good! We have done a fantastic job thanks to Sue, Kelley and Kelsey for helping me. Love all of you!

Don’t forget to come and join the Peachfest! Thanks to all the sponsors and those who have donated their time to make this a success.

Send news to holtb42@yahoo.com or call 679-3299. This is your community news so share some of the things you are doing this summer.

Doris Dawson Watkins, Carolyn, Britten, Brianna, and Tristen Hays all went to Gulf Shores, Ala., for vacation with our cousin Linda Jams from Michigan. Hope they had fun!

Holland

Good morning, it’s good to be back home again! Even though I miss my good friends at Rehab. They are special people. I was away from home 30 days and home looked good to me.

My good friends, Ann Spears of Greenbrier and Jo Carol Rose (I can’t remember her last name) of Conway, visited me at Rehab, since I wrote last. Ann is special from our church and Jo Carol and I go way back to the old Shoe Factory Co. days. We have sung at the nursing home with friends, the late Bro. Press Merritt and wife, Jimmy, enjoyed some good times there. Jo Carol is leading a Bible study there now on certain days. Good for her!

Trinity Cardin of Conway spent last week with her dad, Jason, and grandparents, Lewis Jay and Sandra Cardin, and attended Bible school at Holland Baptist Church.

I have heard that Marsha Brown is looking and feeling a little better. But after a treatment it’s not so good. Her cousin, Elizabeth Johnson, has been staying with her some at night. Hang in there Marsha we are still praying for you, most all the time.

Our son, Danny, cooked a catfish supper last Monday night. John and Sherry ate with us. My cousin, Marian McGinty, cooked me a special coconut pie, that I shared with them.

Amanda (Bart’s wife) and children, Haley, Henry, Charles, and Samuel, brought supper one night. Haley had made homemade bread, everything was delicious. Bart was at work.

Henry and Charles Sellers have returned home after attending Nazarene Church Camp at Green Forest, Ark. They really enjoyed it.

Keep praying for these special people — Brenda Firestone, Eva Lee Parsons, Marian McGinty, Sunny Earnhart, Robert McElroy, Sandra and Lewis Jay Cardin, Betty Applegate, Reba Stevenson, Marsha Brown, Bobbi Hendrickson, Eldene Duran, Arlean King, and Earnestine Newberry.

Have a good week.

God rescues me from trouble.

“I will be with him in trouble, I will rescue him,” Psalm 91:15.
