Anna Thrash was selected this past April as Miss Faulkner County Rice 2014. Her parents are Joe and Reneé Thrash of Conway, and her grandparents are Carroll and Meredith Thrash of Greenbrier and Ralph and Marilyn Worm of Conway. She will compete in the Miss Arkansas Rice competition in August, but meanwhile she travels around Faulkner County to promote rice.
The purpose of The Miss Arkansas Rice competition is to educate more people on rice and it’s importance to Arkansas, because Arkansas is the largest producer of rice in the United States. So far Anna has visited Wooster Elementary and talked with fourth graders about rice, talked with second graders at Conway’s Farm Round-Up, and has given out rice in the Toad Suck Daze Parade. She has also started a Twitter account, that you can follow at @RiceisNice1, where she tweets facts about rice.
Anna is a 2014 graduate of Conway High School and will be attending the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville to pursue a degree in journalism.
Here is Anna’s delicious winning rice recipe:
Chicken Chili with Rice
1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)
1 can corn (undrained)
1 can Rotel (undrained)
1 pkg. Ranch dressing mix
1 tsp. cumin
1 Tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
2 chicken breast halves or 5 tenders frozen
3 cups cooked white rice
Place chicken in bottom of slow cooker. Combine all ingredients except cream cheese and pour over chicken. Place cream cheese on top. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. To serve: Stir cream cheese into chili and ladle over cooked rice. This makes 3-4 adult servings.
