The Conway Shakespeare Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 Tyler St. Co-hostesses will be Mary Ferguson and Carolyn Lewis. Cecilia Patterson and Ruth Voss will present the program on “A Montage of Metro Murders: From Atlanta to Venice.”
Laureate Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi
Laureate Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 11 at McDowell Properties to entertain sister chapter Laureate Alpha Delta. A theme of “Spring Forward Into Light” was planned by committee members Brenda Hawkins, Jan Griffin, Nancy Penny, and Marsha Wigley. A light supper was served and members enjoyed an evening playing games. For March 27, members Sandra Schrekenhofer, Susan Salter, and Lynne Tiner, planned a surprise outing.
Members met at Elizabeth Grant’s Pilates studio in downtown Conway. Mrs. Grant, a certified Pilates instructor demonstrated the different machines and assisted members as they tried them out. Nutritionist Victoria Wiedower then presented a program, and members enjoyed a variety of healthy snacks. A short meeting was held to discuss upcoming events such as the “pack-a-meal” project sponsored by Pitza 42, Founder’s Day, and Toad Suck Daze.
Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Alpha Omega
Laureate Alpha Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met on April 8, at the Trillium Park community room with 10 members present. Janet Jones, our hostess, served chicken spaghetti, spinach salad, garlic bread and chocolate/chocolate chip cookies.
The meeting was called to order by Vernelle Crews, president, leading the Opening Ritual. Bert Lackey stated that the chapter had received an invitation to attend the Bookcase for Every Child awards ceremony on Sunday.
Service chair, Judy Schultz, reported that she had delivered additional food for the elementary schools’ weekend backpack food program, which will complete our service projects for the year. Members discussed attending the state convention in June.
Project write-ups were turned in and will be delivered for judging. This year Laureate Alpha Delta chapter will chair the annual Founder’s Day awards dinner, which will be held April 22 at Julie’s Sweet Shoppe. Secret ballots were cast for our chapter’s Woman of the Year to be announced at Founder’s Day.
Officers for 2014-15 were elected as follows: President, Sondra Pugh; 1st Vice President, Florene Phipps; 2nd Vice President, Linda Alverson; Corresponding Secretary, Judy Schultz; Recording Secretary, Bert Lackey; Treasurer, Janet Jones; and Extension Officer, Vernelle Crews.
In keeping with this year’s theme, “Light Up Your Life,” Janet Jones presented our program on Thomas Edison, inventor of the incandescent light bulb, among other things.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned with members repeating the Closing Ritual and Mizpah. The Sunshine gift was won by Florene Phipps.
