Oather and Lois Hankins of Conway will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Antioch Baptist Church in Conway. Friends and family are invited to attend.
The couple met in Conway through a mutual friend, Mrs. Lynn Perkins of Conway and Oather’s sister, the late Jewel Hankins-Grimes. They beautifully blended a family of his and hers and are the parents to four children, James McDaniel of Maumelle, Gene Hankins (Gwen) of McAllister, Okla., Vickie Kingston of Alexander and Teresa Rega of Conway. They are also the proud grandparents of nine: Richard Hankins, Catherine Hankins, Alina Cox (Kris), TJ Hankins, Brian Kingston (Erin), Alicia Kingston, Chris Kingston, Benjamin McDaniel and Kyle Rega. They have three great-grandchildren, Sierra Hankins, Kyoko Hankins, and Kylie Cox.
Oather is the son of Mart and Melissa Hankins of Pleasant Valley. He had four sisters, Audrey Reed, Viola Burnett, Jewel Grimes, Louvella Hill, and three brothers, Thurman Riley Hankins, Mack Hankins and Elbert Hankins.
Lois is the daughter of Archie and Ora Emerson and had two sisters, Syble Berry and LaVerne McDonald, and six brothers, Leon Emerson, Alvie Emerson, Bill Emerson, Bryce Emerson, Wayland Emerson and Dormet Emerson.
Oather retired from White Consolidated Industries in 1991, and Lois from Kimberly Clark in 1977. They are members of Antioch Baptist Church and have lived in Conway for the 50 years of their marriage.
