Miss UCA 2013 pageant contestants

Ten young women will compete for the title of Miss University of Central Arkansas 2013 on Friday, Nov. 9, beginning at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Performance Hall on the UCA campus.

Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening will be Katie Bailey Harris, Miss Arkansas 2007.

Sloane Roberts, Miss Arkansas 2012; Morgan Holt, Miss UCA 2012; Purple Reign; Mary Tate; and Kerry Hawkins, Miss UCA 2010; will provide entertainment for the evening. Live entertainment and musical accompaniment will be provided by Steven Shook & Company throughout the pageant.

The winner will receive a $7,000 scholarship to UCA and $6,000 in other awards and gifts. Scholarships and gifts totaling $4,000 will be awarded to other winners during the pageant.

Each contestant competes in the areas of presentation and community achievement in private interview, artistic expression in talent, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit, presence and poise in evening wear, and on-stage question.

The 2013 Miss University of Central Arkansas contestants include:

A 20-year-old sophomore music major from Conway, Cook will be singing for her talent. She is sponsored by Kicks Active Wear and is the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Mary Cook.

A 21-year-old senior early childhood education major from Lonsdale, Culpepper will be singing for her talent. She is the daughter of Mark and Angela Culpepper and is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.

A 20-year-old junior biology major from Benton, Fletcher will be playing the piano. She is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and is the daughter of Rhonda and Jerry Fletcher.

A 22-year-old senior family and consumer science major from Conway, Howell will perform a tap dance. She is the daughter of Dr. John and Debra Howell and is sponsored by Beta Upsilon Chi.

A 20-year-old junior broadcast journalism and interior design major from Hot Springs, Hudon will perform a vocal solo. She is the daughter of Jon and Chris Hudon and is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

A 21-year-old junior speech language pathology major from North Little Rock, Johnston will perform a tap dance. She is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority and is the daughter of Mike and Cheryl Johnston.

A 20-year-old junior early childhood education major from Bentonville, Parsons will perform a jazz dance. She is the daughter of Walter and Linda Parsons and sponsored by her family and friends.

A 19-year-old sophomore nursing major from Vilonia, Theall will perform an acrobatics routine. She is sponsored by Sigma Kappa Sorority and she is the daughter of Jay and Cheryl Theall.

A 22-year-old senior psychology major from Texarkana, Texas, Jasmine Williams will be singing for her talent. She is the daughter of Shirley Archie and Kenneth Archie and she is sponsored by Residence Hall Association.

A 20-year-old junior health education major from Arkadelphia, Sequoia Williams will perform a lyrical dance. She is sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and she is the daughter of Jacob and Sharon Golden.

Tickets go on sale at 6 p.m. the day of the pageant in the lobby of Reynolds Performance Hall and are $5 for UCA students, staff and faculty with an ID; $5 for children 12 and under; and $10 for the general public. Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m., and all seating is general admission.

Miss UCA program books will be available for $5. Miss UCA and Miss Arkansas will be available before the pageant and during intermission for autographs.

The Miss UCA Scholarship Pageant is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Miss UCA Board of Directors.
