Yesterdays Oct. 2

The Philathea class of the First Baptist Sunday school had its regular monthly meeting Friday evening at the home of Miss Elizabeth Ball on Ash Street. A covered dish supper was served and at a business session class officers were elected as follows: Prseident Miss Ball; first vice president, Miss Louise Atkinson; second vice president, Miss Watts; third vice president, Miss Hickman; fourth vice president, Miss Evie Shaw; secretary-treasurer, Miss Daisy Bruce; group captains, Misses Addie Ringer and Evie Shaw.

One hundred thirty students from Central High School in Little Rock visited the Art Department at Arkansas State Teachers College last week. They were accompanied by Robert McDonald, head of the Art Department at Central High and a graduate of ASTC. Mrs. Key Lewis and Mrs. Nita Wilson. The ASTC Art Club served punch and cookies.

Mike Shock was installed yesterday as 1987-88 president of the Conway Kiwanis Club, replacing Dr. Harry Readnour.

Other officers installed in ceremonies conducted by Carroll Trent of Morrilton, Kiwanis District 17 lieutenant governor-elect: Robert H. “Bunny” Adcock, president-elect; Dr. Terry Fiddler, vice-president; Ralva Bass, secretary; and Gene Bartley, treasurer.

Shock, a Conway native, graduated from Conway High School and Hendrix College. He and his wife, Melissa, have two sons, Matt and Marc.

Gena Bruck of Conway was honored on her 85th birthday recently at a luncheon with family and friends at the Fish House. Bruck is a lifelong resident of Faulkner County. The party was given by her daughter and granddaughter, Phyllis Davis and Kelly Davis.
