Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Covington entertained at dinner yesterday for Mr. and Mrs. Jack Covington. Out-of-town guests for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. George Covington of Memphis, Tenn., and Grady Covington and Tommy Goza of Jackson, Miss.
When the Conway Wampus Cats turn to a passing game this season, the favorite target will be sure-handed end Luke Gordy. He caught a touchdown pass last week, but it was called back. Gordy, a senior, is a son of Dr. and Mrs. Fred Gordy.
Joshua Strause, 6, and his sister, Jessica, 4, tried out the steps of a new slide yesterday at St. Joseph Elementary School. About 50 volunteers constructed new playground equipment near the elementary school under the direction of Don Chambers of Little Rock, owner of Environments Unlimited of Little Rock. Gaylin Hoelzeman, playground committee chairman, said the project was financed by donations raised by members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. The new playground, which features tunnels, bridges, balance beams, ramps and benches, will be ready Monday for full use by students.
Army National Guard Pvt. James C. Coffman has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in military skills.
