Superintendent of Schools B.A. Short announced today the enrollment of the public school system here had reached 1,042. This is a gain of 28 over last year’s total when 1,016 were enrolled.
Father Anthony Lachowsky of St. Joseph’s parochial school said the enrollment of St. Joseph High School was 49 this year and the lower grades’ enrollment would send the total above the 225-mark.
Thirty-three bass — total weight 172 1/2 pounds - were caught on Lake Conway between July 20 and Aug. 20 by Johnnie DeSalvo of Tommy’s Restaurant; Dwight Matchett of Sportsman’s One-Stop; Tommy Paladino of Tommy’s Restaurant; Arkansas State Teachers College coach Raymond Bright, and Master Sgt. Bobby Jones, now of the Air Force in Roswell, N.M., until recently of Conway. Only three of the fish weighed under five pounds. The largest scaled 7 1/2.
Marty and April Reynolds, formerly of Conway, were selected to serve on the teaching staff of the “We the People Constitutional Band.” A performance by the band in Philadelphia will broadcast on the CBS network at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Mr. and Mrd. Reynolds are recent graduates of the University of Central Arkansas, where they earned bachelor degrees in music.
Wayne Oudekerk, board president of Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County, presented Connie Anderson keys to her new house Saturday. This is the eighth house the organization has constructed in Conway with the help of the Carpenters Club, local churches and volunteers. Family and friends present at the keys presentation were Xandria Anderson, Tameka Gilkey, Cecilia McCray, Ashanti Davis and Chanci Balenton.
