A state highway department crew yesterday started work of removing a high ridge in the asphalt covering the pavement on highways 64 and 65 at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Independence Street, at the southwest corner of the Hendrix College campus. The “hump” was dangerous to traffic because it stood at a curve in the highway.
Cheerleaders at Conway Junior High School for the school year were elected yesterday by the students body.
They were Margo Gibson, Carol Ann Conner and Nancy Selig, ninth graders, Myra Jane Curtis and Polly Ann Milam, eighth graders.
Margo, Myra, Jane and Polly Ann were cheerleaders last year.
About 35 girls tried out for the positions.
Randy and Janie Crouch of Conway are parents of a daughter, Kayla at University Hospital. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces. The couple has another daughter, Hayley, 17 months. Grandparents are Jim and Cynthia Bollier of Guy and Nan Henson of Little Rock. The baby’s great-grandmother is Ida Bollier, also of Guy.
Erik Sellers of Conway will preach his first sermon at 11 a.m. Sunday at True Holiness Saints Center.
Sellers said he was born April 3, 1978, in Conway, and accepted Jesus’ salvation when he was 12. He accepted a call to ministry in 2000 and joined True Holiness that same year. He is a 1996 graduate of Conway High School and attended the University of Central Arkansas and Central Baptist College, where he pursued a degree in Christian counseling.
