Staton 60th wedding anniversary

Gene and Mamie Staton of Toad Suck, formerly of Conway, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 25, 2012, at a dinner given by their three children, Donald (Donna) Staton of Dyer, Ark., Randy (Kim) Staton of Conway and Karen (Al) King of Daphne, Ala.

 

The Statons were married Aug. 22, 1952, in Los Angeles, Calif., while Mr. Staton was in the Navy.

Mr. Staton was born in Elmira, Ark., to the late Seab and Modena Staton of England, Ark., and is a retired farmer. He enjoys fishing on the Arkansas River.

Mrs. Staton is the daughter of the late Ralph and Lena Walker of Los Angeles, originally of Roxton, Texas. She retired from Staton’s Draperies after more than 30 years in business.

They have eight granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.

Only 15 percent of homes in Harris County, which includes Houston, and 20 percent of Corpus Christi are covered by flood insurance, CNN reports. In Florida, with 1,350 miles of coastline, the most in the continental United States, just 42 percent of the 2.5 million homes in hazard zones, are covered by flood insurance, according to the Federal Emergency Management Association.
