Miss Ellen Whitney Shatzen and Mr. Erik Lewis Johnson, both of Arlington, Va., were united in marriage at 4 p.m., on March 24, 2012, at Walker Chapel United Methodist Church in Arlington, Va., in a double-ring ceremony officiated by the Rev. James Earley III.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. Herbert L. Shatzen and Mrs. Beverly Holder Shatzen, originally of Jonesboro, Ark. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Edward Holder and Mrs. Joyce Holder of Conway, and of Mrs. Gloria Shatzen and the late Mr. Maxwell L. Shatzen of Atlanta, Ga.

The groom is the son of Mr. Stephen C. Johnson and Mrs. Robin Lewis Johnson, originally of Conway. He is the grandson of Mrs. Johnnye Hartje, widow of the late Judge George Hartje Jr., and the late Mr. Grayson Lewis of Conway, and of the late Mr. Melvin Johnson and Mrs. Lillian Johnson of San Francisco, Calif.

The bride, escorted by her father, wore a natural white strapless Rosa Clara ball gown with a Swarovski crystal encrusted waistline. Her cathedral-length lace veil was imported from Barcelona, Spain. The custom-made bridal garter was hand-sewn by her grandmother, Gloria Shatzen, and the bride carried a penny worn by her maternal grandmother, Joyce Holder, from her wedding in Walnut Ridge, Ark., in 1953.

The maids of honor were the bride’s sisters, Jill Shatzen of Washington, D.C., and Hannah Shatzen of Charlottesville, Va. The bride’s cousin, Mrs. Sara Siems of Stillwater, Okla., and the groom’s sister, Miss Taylor Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, were bridesmaids. The bridal party wore chiffon floor-length strapless gowns in soft petal pink by Bill Leykoff. The floral bouquets were a medley of garden roses, freesias and hydrangeas in elegant ivory, petal pink and peach spring tones.

The best men were Taylor Marsh of Arlington, Va., and Dan Connolly of Pittsburgh, Pa. The groom and his groomsmen wore Calvin Klein tuxedos with satin lapels and bowties. The boutonnières were light pink rose sprays.

The flower girl, Haley Harbuck, carried a kissing ball of lush, light pink roses while the ringbearer, Cooper Harbuck, carried a satin pillow with pearl embellishments. The Harbuck children are cousins of the groom and reside in Irvine, Calif.

Traveling from Arkansas were Ms. Johnnye Hartje, Edward and Joyce Holder, Bob and Sharon Reynolds, Malia Hinchey and Stephen Hinchey of Conway, and Mr. Ed Gilbertson and Ms. Marsha Lewis of Little Rock.

The rehearsal dinner was held on Friday, March 23, 2012, at the National Press Club in The Fourth Estate Restaurant. The wedding ceremony was held in Arlington, at the same church where Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Johnson wed in 1982. Following the traditional ceremony, the reception was held at Daughters of the American Revolution in downtown Washington, D.C. The Bride, her mother, and sisters are all members of DAR.

Following the wedding, the bride and groom honeymooned in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

The couple now resides in Arlington, Va., where the bride is a Marketing Manager, and the groom is a Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill.
