Police Beat 6/30/14: Stick fight goes unexplained

Posted: June 30, 2014 - 11:27am

Among the incidents recently reported by the Conway Police Department:

• Criminal mischief on Fourth Avenue

A resident reported Friday that, shortly before police arrived, two men had been fighting in her driveway, using long sticks and trying to hit each other.

As they swung and missed, they were hitting her car, she reported. One of the men swung wildly and missed the other and hit the driver’s side mirror of the vehicle, knocking it loose. Damage was estimated at $250.

• Motor vehicle theft on April Drive

A resident reported Saturday that someone stole his 1997 Nissan pickup from outside his house. When the offender moved the vehicle, they pulled forward and hit a cable box that was mounted to the ground, probably causing front end damage to the vehicle. The truck was valued at $1,500.

• Breaking or entering on Rich Smith Lane

A resident reported Sunday that someone broke the passenger-side window of her vehicle and stole her wallet, along with $300, her driver’s license and Social Security card.

• Motor vehicle theft on Lakefront Drive

A Conway man reported Sunday that someone stole his ATV.

It was chained with a railroad chain and a heavy duty lock, he reported.

• Residential burglary on Willow Street

A resident reported Sunday that someone broke into his apartment and stole a video game console, an electric guitar, an amp, $1,200 cash and other items.

Total value was $3,045.

Typical gun-nut response right there

No one is suggesting a ban on sticks
So stop with that lame argument.

We only want to register sticks and limit sticks to 24-inches in length, there is no need in a developed nation to have sticks longer that 24 inches for defense.

Also, background checks for all tree trimmers and logging operations to stop the black market for illegal sticks.

Also, sticks must have safety features that prevent splinters and unintended throws.

This is not the fight that you were looking for...

I'm picturing two grown men recreating a scene from Star Wars.
