Police beat 6/6/14: 81-year-old man swindled in phone scam

Among the incidents recently reported by the Conway Police Department:

Theft on Thousand Oaks Circle

An 81-year-old Conway man reported $16,000 was stolen from him in a phone scam. Someone called claiming to be his grandson and saying he had been arrested in Nashville. The caller asked the victim to wire money for his release. He was later contacted by someone claiming to be his grandson’s attorney and asking for more money. The man eventually became suspicious and contacted police.

Motor vehicle theft on First Avenue

A Conway man reported that he started his truck and went back inside to get two bottles of water like he always does. He heard his truck leaving and when he got outside, his truck was gone. A tool box, various tools and his wallet were in the truck. Total value was $8,810.

Criminal mischief at the 1400 block of South Donaghey Avenue

A resident reported that a former roommate allegedly slashed her tires and broke the side view mirror off her vehicle. Total damage was $230.

Theft at the 2200 block of Lookout Avenue

A resident reported that someone stole his son’s trick bike while it was sitting outside. It was valued at $300.

Motor vehicle theft on Monroe Street

A Conway man reported someone stole his red Hyosung motorcycle during the night. It was valued at $1,500. The thief also scratched his Chevrolet Tahoe, he reported. Damage was estimated at $2,000.

I have to use my most detested word

I HATE people who take advantage of elderly people. There should be a special classification for people who take advantage or attack elderly people.
