Burglars steal AC unit, fix broken window with duct tape, police say

Conway police say burglars recently stole an air conditioning unit from a rental property, then attempted to repair a broken window to cover their tracks.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Washington Avenue around 11:13 a.m. Wednesday after the property owner alerted police of the theft.

The 66-year-old complainant said the window unit was stolen from a property, not currently occupied, during the weekend. The complainant said a window above the air conditioning unit was broken in the process of the theft. However, police said “the offenders” entered the home, repaired the window with duct tape and locked all doors and windows before leaving.

Police were unable to located fingerprints from the window or frame due to an “abundance of dirt and grease.”

The air conditioning unit was valued at $519, and damage to the window was estimated at $150.
