A Conway man was arrested for public intoxication Tuesday morning after police observed the man riding a bicycle in the middle of Watkins Street.

Officers observed the 31-year-old man on a black bike around 3 a.m. in the 1100 block of Watkins Street. Police initiated a traffic stop, because the man did not have proper lighting for nighttime riding.

Upon contact, police said the man displayed bloodshot eyes, and admitted to drinking at a friend’s house prior to riding the bike. The man told police he was en route to his home on Landover Trail.

The man was taken into custody, and transported to the Faulkner County jail.

Conway PD needs priorities

So here we have a man who was at a party, got drunk, and instead of driving home uses a bicycle. Only to have CPD stop him about, lets say, a mile from his house. Can they say hey man, lets help you out and get you home? No, they say you're a drunk and you're going to jail.

Heck, odds were they weighed 400 pounds, had just closed the buffet at Golden Corral, and he could out run them.

Bleeding Heart

Or maybe this guy was out breaking into cars or committing other crimes because people never lie to the police.

Some observations

One thing I've noticed about Conway is the only place you can drink without fear of getting arrested is outside the city limits. Think about it: you go to a bar or somebody else's house and get drunk. You can't drive because it's unsafe and you'll get DWI, but you can't walk (or ride a bike) because you get Public Intoxication, but you also can't stay because you get Trespassing. All lead to jail. I've even seen people go to jail for Drinking in Public because their front door was open while they got hammered in their living room.

However, few people are up to any good if they're strolling around town on foot or bicycle during the wee hours. Conway doesn't exactly have a night life.
