Conway police say a Morrilton man has been arrested in connection with Monday morning's armed robbery at the Arkansas Federal Credit Union on Skyline Drive.

Conway police spokesperson La Tresha Woodruff said Demitris Maple, 31, was identified by investigators in surveillance footage from the robbery.

Woodruff said investigators went to Morrilton Tuesday to question Maple, but before they were able to make contact, Maple led multiple Pope County agencies on a vehicle-pursuit, after he was observed by a Morrilton police officer.

Woodruff said she was not sure of the nature of the pursuit, or its duration.

Maple is being held at the Faulkner Count jail on an aggravated robbery charge, Woodruff said.

Officers responded to the bank, located at 220 Skyline Drive, around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

According to police, the suspect, identified as a black male in his 40s, wearing a Miami Heat hat and a camouflage sweatshirt, entered the bank with a handgun. Police said the suspect also had a note, which demanded money.

The suspect is not to believed to have pointed the gun at anyone in the bank, but did not attempt to hide the weapon, police said. Upon exiting the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect was seen, by witnesses, leaving the parking lot in an older model, gold sedan.

A Facebook page created by a Demitris Maple lists Conway as his current city and the Morrilton School Distric (sic) as a current or former employer. The South Conway County School Board voted in November 2012, and in February to approve a person named Demitris Maple as a substitute teacher, according to minutes from those meetings. This Demitris Maple also lists himself as a member of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton’s class of 2014.Among this person’s Facebook pictures are several of what seem to be family photos and several pictures of classic cars, including a gold-colored Chevrolet Caprice Classic.
