Neighborhoods across Conway are invited to join forces starting at 5 p.m. tonight to celebrate the “30th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime prevention event.
The event is designed to:
(1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
(2) Generate support for and participate in local anticrime efforts;
(3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships; and
(4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
All Conway residents are invited to attend a block party organized by the Special Operations Division of the Conway Police Department. It’s set to kick off 5 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Pine Street Substation. Target, CenterPoint Energy, Kroger and Ideal Bread are sponsoring this event and will be providing and preparing hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks. Officers with the Conway Police Department will be on hand to pass out information on crime prevention, recruit and develop a partnership with the community. The Fire Department will bring its fire truck.
For those not attending this block party, project coordinator Lt. Jeff Anderson with the Conway Police encourages them to organize their own block party in their neighborhoods. “From 5-7 p.m. get outside, meet your neighbors — knowing who belongs in your neighborhood helps cut down on crime,” says Anderson.
