Tina Fenner, of Conway; Eric Johnson, of Maumelle; Skye McKinney, of Conway; and Terry Williams, of Greenbrier; along with Central Sterile Manager Mandy Picard, of Conway, have passed the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) certification exam to become Certified Registered Central Services Technicians.
All five are members of the Central Sterile Department at Conway Regional Health System. The department is responsible for ensuring that instruments used in all surgical procedures at the medical center are sterile, which is critical in preventing infection.
Several states on the eastern seaboard have made it mandatory to be licensed to work in a Sterile Processing Department, said Picard. While Arkansas has not yet begun the process, the Central Sterile staff at Conway Regional has taken the initiative and become licensed by IAHCSMM. Holding the certification requires annual, ongoing education.
According to the organization’s website, IAHCSMM is dedicated to ensuring that those seeking certification are tested on the most current technological advancements and the highest industry standards. Additional information about Central Sterile processing can be found at www.iahcsmm.org.
