Our Programs Mission reads: Child Care Aware of North Central Arkansas is a network of services dedicated to enhancing the quality and availability of child care; advocating for children; and providing information, education, guidance and support to parents, providers, employers and communities.
What type of business is it? We are a regional child care resource and referral (CCR&R) program. We provide referrals to parents seeking child care options through a database of licensed and registered child care facilities with vacancies meeting parent’s needs.
What specifically does your business do? In addition to providing referrals, we strive to enhance the quality of child care through provider education and training; increase supply of care by helping to recruit providers to meet identified community needs; provide technical assistance to present and prospective providers with the objective of promoting quality; serve as a trend spotter through careful data collection and act as a Community Change Agent through advocacy and partnership building.
Owner or Manager Name: Program Director: Debbie Webb Faulkner County Office Manager: Carol Crockett
Why did you decide to open this business/location? The Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education offered CCR&R programs across the state the opportunity to expand services into counties not currently served. Child Care Aware of Northcentral Arkansas already served three counties which border Faulkner County, making it a logical expansion choice.
What is the best part about owning/operating this business? The best part of what we do is the satisfaction we feel because we know we are making a difference in the lives of children and families in our service area. We provide a variety of services to promote quality early care and education and support for parents, child care programs and the communities we serve.
What has been the biggest surprise that has happened since opening this business? How quickly we have been welcomed into the community and how progressive and receptive Faulkner County is in recognizing the extreme importance of the quality care and education of young children.
What is the best piece of advice you received before going into this business? Keep doing what you have been doing for the last 15+ years in your new expansion counties, because it is working!
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to someone starting out in business? Network with other businesses that share your same passion; be prepared to give it your all! We eagerly partner and collaborate with other entities, agencies, businesses and communities that have a vested interest in our ultimate mission — the success of young children. What makes your business unique to Conway and Faulkner County? Faulkner County and the City of Conway, in particular, have not had the opportunity of receiving the services of a child care resource and referral program prior to 2012. As of July 1, CCANCA was awarded a grant to provide services to six additional counties including Faulkner County. Our agency has a proven track record — more than 15 years — of increasing the number of quality child care facilities in our service counties (one county saw an increase of more than 600 percent in quality approved child care facilities, while others have increased more than 300 percent). The program also provides services to parents, child care providers, the community, and most important, the children. CCANCA’s service area now totals 14, which is approximately the same number of counties served by our sister CCR&R agencies to our west and east.
Child Care Aware of NCA was the second regional CCR&R agency in the state and began in early 1997. The program was the first nationally accredited and quality approved child care resource and referral program in Arkansas.
Combined, the staff has over 115 years of experience in early care and education. Two staff members have long term experience as both a child care center director and a family child care home operator. The remaining staff has extensive experience in business management, as trainers for child care providers and in providing technical assistance to child care facilities. Staff also assists communities with increasing the child care supply to meet demand (such as a new industry locating in the area or a sudden child care facility closing). Specializing in a variety of referral services for parents is also a key service.
In addition to serving on numerous state and local initiatives and committees, Debbie Webb, Program Director of Child Care Aware of North Central Arkansas serves on state public policy committees, and is one of 12 members nationally on Child Care Aware of America’s Public Policy Committee. Located in Washington, D.C., Child Care Aware of America is the national association for child care resources and referral agencies.
