Attorney arrested on drug charges

A defense attorney was charged with delivery of meth or cocaine, illegal use of a communication facility and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was arrested in Conway on Feb. 9.

William Bailey, 35, is being held in the Faulkner County Detention Center in lieu of a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 27 in circuit court for a plea and arraignment hearing.

On Feb. 9, the Conway Police Department Narcotics Division asked a confidential informant to contact Bailey to buy meth, according to a police report.

The informant asked to buy “an 8-ball,” or 3.5 grams of meth, but Bailey said he didn’t have that much, the report stated.

Instead, Bailey reportedly agreed to meet the informant with around 1 gram of meth. An undercover narcotics officer waited with the informant at the designated meeting place and witnessed the drug deal, police said.

A search of Bailey’s vehicle “revealed six unused syringes, which Bailey stated belonged to his diabetic wife,” the report stated.

Bailey is currently on probation after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two charges of third-degree endangering the welfare of a minor on Nov. 28, 2016.

Those charges stemmed from Little Rock police finding Bailey passed out in his car surrounded by needles, drug paraphernalia and marijuana while his two children were asleep in the backseat, according to court documents.

As part of the plea deal, Bailey was placed on probation for one year, given a fine of $1,500 and required to enroll in a drug treatment program and a parenting class.

Chief Prosecuting Attorney Hugh Finkelstein, who will prosecute the Conway case, said because Bailey’s previous case was settled in Pulaski County, requesting bond revocation would be up to the prosecutor there.
