The Iguana Squad with 23 team members from First Baptist, Second Baptist, Fellowship Bible, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Hendrix College, Conway Nazarene Church, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Conway Regional Medical Center provided medical and dental care for a small village in Belize, Central America from May 28 to June 5, 2016. Team members included Julia Chambers, ARNP; Anne-Jillian Clements; Kyle Cochran; Elizabeth Cole; Marcie Cole; Kynnadee Efird; Ronnie Faram, DDS; Ashton Fisher; Jayme Jeane; Kenneth Kolb; Angi Lewis; Madeline Lewis; Steve Lewis; Donna Magee; Dr. Jimmy Magee; Aaron New; Joanie Roberts; Dr. Tom Roberts; Sam Roberts; Ashley Smith; Pete Thiels; Barry Williams and Savannah Williams.
A clinic was set up in Succotz, Belize at the local Nazarene Church, with assistance from Pastor Eric Reyes. Dr. Tom Roberts, orthopedic; Dr. Jimmy Magee, pediatrician at ACH/UAMS; and Julia Chambers, ARNP provided medical care for 1,327 people in a four-day medical and dental clinic. Ronnie Faram, DDS of Oklahoma provided dental care and extracted 62 teeth. Angi Lewis of Conway was the hygenist.
Our group also visited two orphanages in Belmopan (King’s Children’s Home and Marla’s House of Hope). The group distributed over 300 Bibles; 350 pairs of sunglasses, protective eyewear and prescription glasses; The group also filled 2,805 prescriptions and 20 people accepted Christ.
A special thank you to Dr. Richard Elimon of Conway for the 24 rolling suitcases for medications and traveling; Steve Pasco, DDS and Tooth Acres for donation of toothpaste, toothbrushes and floss; the Lewis family for their monetary donation for dental supplies; Dr. Magie Smith Charton Eye Clinic/The Optical Shop for sunglasses and prescription glasses; and Dr. Shan Ford with Arkansas Eye Care Group for the donation of sunglasses. Without these donations we could not provide the free care that is needed by so many.
