Vilonia woman wins new roof

Special to the Log Cabin

Brenda Fowlkes of Vilonia was named winner of a new roof in Harness Roofing’s No Roof Left Behind initiative.

Fowlkes was nominated by her sister, Tammy Ramsey.

Fowlkes’ house was narrowly missed in the Vilonia 2014 tornado, incurring damage that wasn’t noticed at the time due to the fact that she was busy taking care of her husband who was battling colon cancer.

She lost him in November, one month after losing her son to liver cancer.

Due to funeral and burial expenses, a new roof was pushed further down the list.

Her sister nominated her in hopes of giving her some good news and easing some of her burdens.

“When I opened my email telling me the news, I couldn’t believe I had won,” Fowlkes said.

The winner was chosen by the public. Voters chose from four finalists listed on the Harness Roofing No Roof Left Behind website and were able to read their stories before voting on the person they thought could benefit the most from a free roof.

Harness Roofing will schedule the project for a date to be determined by the homeowner.

In celebration, Harness Roofing will invite the community to join in for an Installation Celebration to kick off the project. This will be a family-friendly, festival-style neighborhood event and all will be welcome. The festival date has yet to be determined.

“We are very pleased with the success of this initiative that has brought so many members of our community together. We are excited to celebrate with everyone who made this possible,” Harness Roofing Inc. President Roger Harness said.
