Hartness 'at rest' after year-long battle with cancer

Donna and Wayne Hartness following the Aug. 4 retirement reception for Hartness at Antioch Baptist Church in Conway.

Engineer Wayne Hartness, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2014, died early Monday morning.

“Wayne is finally at rest in his permanent home. He went to be with the Lord this morning at 4:25 a.m. surrounded by his family,” a Facebook page dedicated to the retired firefighter read. “The entire family wants to thank everyone so much for their prayers and support. Please continue to pray for [his wife] Donna and the family in the coming days.”

Hartness retired from the Conway Fire Department in August after more than 23 years with the department.

As of Monday afternoon, nearly 300 people had commented on the Facebook post, offering their condolences or sharing a favorite memory.
