After more than a month of helping coordinate the largest volunteer effort in the group’s four-year history — including more volunteers here than the Hurricane Sandy cleanup effort — Team Rubicon is redeploying to other disasters.
A small team will remain to participate in the continuing cleanup from the April 27 tornado, but the task of organizing the volunteer effort in a cleanup that will take at least another month will be picked up by the Arkansas Dream Center.
At a press conference at the Faulkner County Courthouse on Friday, Team Rubicon liaison officer and public information officer Wes Craiglow said that his team had worked closely with the Dream Center organization over the past month, and has faith that they can carry on the job.
Every cleanup job identified by Team Rubicon or requested by someone was assigned a work order, and volunteers checking in with Team Rubicon were assigned one of these work orders. About 140 work orders were generated, and Team Rubicon is satisfied that 129 had been completed as of Friday afternoon. They managed more than 10,000 volunteers, who worked nearly 40,000 hours. This does not include the uncounted thousands of volunteers who worked independently of the Team Rubicon structure.
Now the team will reconsolidate, regroup and prepare to move on to other disasters, including to flooding in Wyoming and storm damage in Nebraska. And hurricane season is about to start.
“Team Rubicon wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family members of those whose lives were lost to this terrible storm, and our sincerest sympathies to everyone affected,” a press release issued on Friday states. “It has been an honor to serve on their behalf this month, and the friends we’ve made and the memories of service we’ll share with the residents of Faulkner County will be with us forever. Team Rubicon wishes you all the speediest recovery.”
