The Catholic Club claimed the softball championship of Conway today after turning in a 14-6 victory over Thompson Men’s Shop in the deciding game last night of the city tournament. The game closed the local season.

50 years ago

(1964)

Rock and roll star Conway Twitty and his band will play at a dance Labor Day night (Monday) at Miller’s Swim Club.

Jim miller said he had a contract with the group to play from 8-11 p.m.

Twitty’s first name is after the city of Conway. The drummer in his band is Tommy Markham of this city.

Connie Atkinson of Conway, Arkansas’ Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary president, led the state delegation to the 76th national convention of the VFW auxiliary, held Aug. 18-25, in Las Vegas.

As Arkansas’ leading representative, Mrs. Atkinson voiced the votes of delegates during the election of national officers and played a key role in declining the direction of the national organization for 1989-90.
