A check for $25 was received today from the mail order firm of Sears Roebuck & Company as a donation toward the purchase of new X-ray equipment for the Conway Memorial Hospital, Lonzo Ross, business manager, announced.

School began today at St. Joseph. Some were excited, some apprehensive, some resisting. Shawn Hearn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hearn, just closed her eyes and got reassurance from her father. She will be a third-grader.

St. Joseph is the first school in Conway to open.

25 years ago

(1989)

Kiwanis President Robert H. “Bunny” Adcock presented a check for $1,300 yesterday to Lou Green, director of Help for Abuse Victims in Emergency Need (HAVEN), at the Kiwanis Club meeting. The money is from the proceeds of the Toad Suck 10K race earlier this year.

Kentrel Rogers and Cory Cangelosi were named the Gulf South Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Monday.

Rogers is a 5-foot-10, 202-pound junior running back from Fordyce, Ark. Cangelosi is a 6-1, 202-pound junior safety from Mandeville, La.
