Wahle takes over Hendrix swim program

Marty Wahle has been named the new head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming & diving program at Hendrix College.

“Coach Wahle is a perfect fit for our program and for Hendrix College,” said Amy Weaver, director of athletics.

“He has an extensive background as a swimmer and has experienced early success in his coaching career. Coach Wahle has a true passion for the sport and his energy and excitement will take our swimming and diving program to the next level.”

Wahle spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Ripon College in Ripon, Wis.

Under his guidance, the Red Hawks broke 17 school records, while both programs had their highest finishes at the Midwest Conference meet since 2006.

Before Ripon, Wahle served as an assistant swim coach at Misericordia University in Dallas, Penn., where he was also the men’s team recruiter.

In his two years at Misericordia, Wahle saw his team’s swimmers break 32 school and four conference records.

Wahle graduated Cum Laude from Minnesota State University, Mankato in December 2009 with a B.S. in Elementary Education.

While at Mankato, he was a 16-time NCAA Division-II All-American on the swim team from 2007-09 and participated in the 2008 Olympic Trials in the 200-meter backstroke.

Wahle has been a camp counselor at a number of locations, including Camp Greylock in Becket, Mass., the University of The Warriors will begin the season with the Orange and Black intrasquad meet on Sept. 26 at Bob Courtway Pool.

Ruth Doyle girls downed by Greenbrier

The Ruth Doyle Middle School seventh-grade girls lost to Greenbrier on Wednesday, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12).

Ruth Doyle had aces from Gracie Melton, Kenley Mobley, Abbi Mourot, Bailey Burk, and Gracie Vint.

Greenbrier also won the B game, 25-21, 26-24.

Lina Rein had six aces while Blakely Smothers had four digs.

Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports regional tournaments begin April 28

JACKSONVILLE – Student athletes from across Arkansas will gather at the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Shooting Sports Complex in Jacksonville each weekend, beginning April 28, to take their shots at the regional and state championship tournaments of the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program.
