Robert R. Goldsborough Jr., age 16, of Conway was awarded second prize, a $300 scholarship to Gulf Coast military academy through a contest.

Young Goldsborough is a junior in high school and plays first trumpet in the high school band. A Boy Scout for four years, he is a gold palm Eagle Scout and is assistant scoutmaster of the local troop.

Miss Mary Bryant, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Bryant of Conway, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force this week. She left Wednesday for Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She graduated from Conway High School last May.

Shelly Spradlin, 20-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Spradlin of Conway, was named first runner-up in the Miss Rodeo Arkansas Pageant, held Aug. 12 at Crossett (Ashley County).

Miss Spradlin works as an emergency medical technician at Conway Regional Hospital and also works at O.K. Corral.

Ben Hasty, 6, of Conway, and his Uncle Nick Hasty caught a 7-pound catifish in a pond near Memphis, Tenn. This was Ben’s first big fish.

Judge approves $29.1M payout for cigarette lawsuit
