Special dedication at CCS event
Conway Christian School will hold its annual “Meet the Eagles” night Thursday at Mission Field.
The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with a hotdog meal for $5 supporting the CCS Booster Club.
At 6:30 the dedication of the new bell tower and Athletic Multi-Plex facilities will begin with special recognition of the Fred Ramsey family. Immediately afterward, the members of all fall sports teams will be recognized and introduced on the field.
The public is invited.
The CCS football season kicks off on Sept. 5th at home vs. Little Rock Episcopal.
Four honored for UCA volleyball
The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team, which has won back-to-back Southland Conferencre tournament titles, placed three players on the first team and one on the second on the SLC preseason all-conference team.
Junior outside hitter Heather Schnars, who was a first-team All-SLC selection last season, earned preseason first team honors. The Downey, Calif., native led the Southland in service aces (54), finished third in kills (383), fourth in kills per set (3.51), 11th in hitting percentage (.269), and ranked ninth in the nation in aces per set (.50).
Libero Shelbee Berringer and middle blocker Alicia Dittrich joined Schnars on the first team. Berringer, a senior from Dickinson, Texas, led the team and ranked third in the conference in digs (559) and 45th in the nation in digs per set (4.86). Dittrich, a senior from Houston, Texas, was a 2012 first-team All-SLC selection. She was second in the conference last season in hitting percentage (.327) while averaging 1.38 kills per set and 0.57 blocks per set.
Sophomore Fulani Petties earned second-team honors. The middle blocker from Whitehouse, Texas finished fourth in the SLC in hitting percentage (.320) while averaging 1.76 kills per set and 0.65 blocks per set.
The Sugar Bears will hold their annual alumni match at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Prince Center.
On Monday, Central Arkansas will play its annual Purple-Gray match at 7 p.m.
UCA will begin the regular season Aug. 29-30 at the Oregon Invitational in Eugene.
